Limuru Girls’ School is a National school located in Limuru Sub-county, Kiambu County.
The school was founded in 1922 by
Arnold Buttler McDonell for his four daughters and others who might join. Her Governess
became the first Headmistress and his oldest daughter Evelyn Mitchell became
the first student of the school. In 1926, McDonell sold the school and 60 acres
of the farm to the Church Commissioners Society. In 1936, the Common Wealth and Continental
Church Society (CCS) became responsible for the school.
In 1938, the first ‘O’ level students sat their examination and in 1952, the first ‘A’ level students sat their Examination.
In 1969, the Ministry of Education expressed its intention to have the School continue as an Inter racial school and in 1974, the Government took over the running of the School. Today, the School is a National public school managed by Board of Management (BoM) as per the Basic Education Act 2013, and the Anglican Church of Kenya, Diocese of Mt. Kenya South as the sponsor.

CURRENT STATUS
Limuru Girls is today nine(9) streamed school with a student population of 2062, 55
TSC employed teachers and 21 BOM employed teachers. The school has continued to perform well in
the National examinations with the current mean of 8.58 ( B). The school is
also doing well in co-curricular
activities, for example, in 2022 the school represented the County in
the Africa Junior Achievement Expo in Lagos, Nigeria.
